Holidays at Chateau Barayre!
How many bedrooms are there in total?
The castle offer 26 beds in 11 rooms. There are two 4-person rooms, all other rooms are 2-person rooms. Download the floorplans.
Do all rooms have en-suite bathrooms?
No, they didn't think about that in the 12th century. Ensuite only in the two tower rooms; one of which is the wedding suite. There are 7 bathrooms and 2 separate toilets in the accommodation.
Beds for tall people?
All beds are 2 meters in length. In the Gite d’Alienor 8 beds are without bed ends. In the Gite du Pape 10 beds are without bed ends.
What do we share / private?
Both accommodations are very spacious and have their own unique outdoor spaces on different sides of the castle. The swimming pool, forecourt and the herb garden in the courtyard are shared. Here the children can play long hours with their holiday friends while you are enjoying a book and a good glass of wine. From experience we can tell you that groups always goes very well together. If children are the same age, they will make fun together, which allows you to chill out as well :) If children’s ages are further apart, lets say adolescent versus young children, we see that they usually have such a different day program that they hardly meet. In summertime we organize a weekly evening with all our guests in which we serve and enjoy homemade crepes and savoury “galettes”. It’s a nice convivial moment to get to know the other guests and us, your hosts!
Babies & small kids
We have sufficient childrens chairs. Please notify the number of babies us upon reservation. In “Gite Aleonore” we can place 2 additional children’s cots. In the “Gite du Pape“ we can place 4 baby cots. If due to babies the total number of guests surpasses the maximum number of guests in the accommodation, no problem, An additional fee of €10/day will be charged per baby for the week to be paid in cash.
Having kids of 6 and 8, we have a lot (!) to play with; outdoor and indoor games, dolls, construction, etc. You can find it all in the tipi tent, located near the entrance of the terrain.
All electrical sockets are protected. The entire garden is fenced. The pool has a separate fence.
Parking
Per gite we have 3 parking spots on the terrain. If you come with more cars, that’s possible. Once you’ve dropped your luggage, your car be parked next to the church of Envals (which actually once made part of the castle). There’s a small route between though the field which leads you straight onto the inner courtyard of the castle!
Can I take my dog ?
If you like to take your dog; that’s possible if you rent the "Gite de Aleanore". A few points or attention though. Your dog needs to be well behaved, so take care that your dog will not disturb the other guests and animals. Dogs are not allowed to enter the pool area and the stairs to sleeping floor or mount any of the furniture inside the accommodation. Dry your dog before entering the house and please take his or her dog basket/cushion, so your dog feels nicely at home :) Obviously, enjoy the natural surroundings often, to allow him/her to do unleash the important, please clean straight away if this might happen on the property. An additional fee of €10/day will be charged per dog to be paid in cash. It’s obliged to tell us if you would like to take your dog before booking.
Do you have animals?
Yes! We do have a large crowd of cute little chickens marching around the terrain. They will supply you with fresh daily eggs! Furthermore we have a dog: a labrador-boxer-bordercollie mixture which is very nice with kids but isn’t that outgoing and usually stays with us. There’s lots of sheep too on the 20 hectares around the castle, biologically held, so no pesticides around our valley! Then we’re on the countryside, so there’s nature all around, we have 3 types of owls in the garden, falcon nets in the towers (which keep away pigeons), sometimes a wild cat (beware of leaving food unattended on tables outdoor). We mow naturally to maintain lots of wild grasses accommodating bees and insects. We’re happy to tell you all about it.
Cancellation
If canceled after 01/03/2023, no payments will be refunded. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you are nevertheless forced to cancel your trip, we are happy to discuss with you whether it is possible to find an alternative free week in a comparable price period in the same year. If you want to protect yourself against costs due to unexpected circumstances, you must take out cancellation insurance yourself.
COVID-19 cancellation. If on the scheduled date of your event Covid rises again in the tenant's country making it impossible to travel to or within France, or if we at Château Barayre cannot welcome you due to Covid restrictions, we will offer you, free of costs, to postpone your holiday to an alternative date.
What’s there to do?
The four nearest villages Villereal, Monflanquin, Monpazier and Issigeac are all amongst the "Plus Beau Villages de France", France's 150 most beautiful villages. Beyond beautiful, they are very lively. The surroundings are a very good place to enjoy holidays anyways with beautiful nature, plenty of castles, the river valleys of Dordogne and Lot, not to forget good food :) Follow this link to find out more about the region.
